If you enjoy the details of a watch, there is a fair chance the details of a good boot will interest you too. Materials, construction and the ability to repair something all deserve a closer look.
GORAL says its footwear is designed and manufactured in its family factory, with its workshop based in Sheffield. LANX has its own Lancashire factory and works with other makers in Britain and overseas. Its manufacturing guide identifies different origins for different collections.
That is why we will look at the exact model. A British company name tells you something about the business. The product description and manufacturing information tell you more about the pair you are considering.
Northamptonshire gives us plenty to explore. Tricker’s describes production at its Northampton factory. Cheaney explains its work in Desborough, while Crockett & Jones traces its manufacturing heritage in Northampton.
For each feature, we want useful answers. What leather is used? How is the sole attached? What repair service is available? Does the shape suit the wearer? What does the price actually buy?
We will also follow Rose Anvil’s original footwear coverage and British GQ’s menswear reporting. Where we discuss someone else’s teardown or opinion, we will say whose it is. A hands on review will mean someone has actually worn the product.
Our own leather goods remain at the centre of Watchheads. The wider Journal is a place to explore the watches, makers and materials that interest the people using them.
